42Floors? PDA: The War For Talent Among Startups Needs A New Approach. Here?s Why
Startups do the darndest things. As you may or may not have seen, Y Combinator startup 42Floors made a bold and fairly unprecedented move today -- as hiring goes, in any case. 42Floors Co-founder Jason Freedman had been following the work of UPenn sophomore Dan Shipper on Hacker News. The two had chatted a few times by phone and on Twitter, and Freedman was so impressed by the quality of Shipper's programming, design skills, and smarts, that he decided to publicly offer the sophomore a job -- via the company blog. Why? Well, first off, it was likely to turn into publicity both for Shipper and for 42Floors. So there's that. It was also done somewhat with an ulterior motive. As Freedman says in his post, the team believes that "hiring is dead." And he has a point: If you're looking to hire the kind of talent that is out there actually building products, companies, etc. (and who isn't?), those men and women likely aren't filling out job applications. Ke$ha has stooped to a new low on Twitter... literally!
The dollar-signed singer - who has tried to get attention in the past for her wild haircuts - has now given followers a glimpse at the other end of her body, as she squatted in the streets of Los Angeles early Wednesday morning and sent out a photo of herself urinating.
"Pee pee on the street. PoPo come and get me if you can find me," Ke$ha wrote. "I blame traffic."
According to California law, if the PoPo had spotted this act, the artist could have been fined $270 fine. In related news: Ke$ha really, really needs a new hit single, lest we be subjected to more gross cries for attention.

Lane Garrison Charged With Domestic Violence
Actor Lane Garrison has been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence following his alleged attack on ex-girlfriend Ashley Mattingly last week.
While it appeared Lane would be cleared as recently as mid-week, the L.A. County District Attorney filed the charges against him late Thursday.
Based on surveillance video which appears to show Lane slapping Ashley Mattingly in the face last Saturday, the D.A. felt he had a case to make.
Garrison insists he did not hit his ex, and says the tape helps his case.
Lane's lawyer says he was merely reaching for his phone at her Beverly Hills apartment and it was not a slap, but evidently the D.A. begs to differ.
Garrison is being held without bail because he's on a parole hold. He was convicted of vehicular DUI manslaughter back in 2007 and went to prison.
If convicted of domestic violence, he faces up to a year in jail, which is very unlikely, however, he could do even more time if his parole is violated.
That prospect is much more likely. Stay tuned.
