Reseller Web Hosting | My Six Strings Blog

Potentially you possess tried (it?s possible that a lot more than at the time) to possess a web site. It?s possible you?ll have signed up late at nighttime on one of the many quite a few web site internet hosting options that will be on the net and for only $7.ninety five you ended up up and jogging. Or even you went all out and employed an internet designer paying a thousand bucks or even more developing them develop your internet site and looking cart.

You dreamed of that shopper numerous miles absent logging to the World wide web, exploring on Google or Yahoo and instantly identifying your giving. You considered the number of significantly more customers you?d have so you considered to your self, ?if I could just get one particular additional shopper each month from my page, then I might make $XX, XXX.XX more cash.? This means you developed your web site and waited and waited.

But nobody confirmed up. You have not even gotten a single one buyer from the initiatives and cost. You unsuccessful on the net. You joined the ranks of an incredible number of most people which have absent right before and may go when you. Your site unsuccessful.

You?re not by itself. Away from the more or less fifty six million online pages online, less than five hundred,000 of these have any authentic site traffic to talk of. Allow me to state that some other way. You can find more than fifty five million website pages on-line which might be carry out failures mainly because they?ve no legitimate website traffic. (Everyday people coming with the webpage). Therefore if you will have been undoubtedly one of people fifty five million, do not be concerned, it transpires to all of us.

Just what is failure?

What?s failure? Somewhat just simply, a web site with little if any website traffic is actually a failure. Free of page views on your own website, then how could everybody at any time call you or employ you? How can they come across out regarding your presenting or product or service? How would they know whereby you?re situated which you will have the precise issue that they?re trying for?

Let us analyze the purposes that internet websites fall short via the internet and start serious about how we can easily dodge these common pitfalls in putting together our new internet site or revamping an up-to-date page. Beneath you will see the ten essential motives that internet sites fall short.

one.Online pages fall short due to insufficient subject matter. In my view, there couldn?t be described as a much larger rationale of why webpages fall short online in the present day than insufficient authentic content material. Subject material must have to incorporate help and advice towards web site. It wants to incorporate price for the website and be a little something fresh new, new, or maybe a differing thoughts and opinions. Articles and other content is composing regarding your specified topic or featuring in this type of way that it can help your rankings with all the important look for engines.

I?m not speaking about product sales pitches right here. I?m referring to creating realistic subject matter on the blog that solutions a matter to get a searcher. You must don?t forget that individuals on the net are trying to find particulars, not you. After they place inside a lookup phrase like ?homes in Charleston, SC? they can be searching for advice, not a certain actual estate agent.

Research engines will assess your web site to view if it provides solutions to certain queries which can be done due to their companies. If it does, then for that established of keywords and phrases, you might be rated (and eventually get a bit more targeted traffic.) If it won?t, similar to the useful the greater part of websites on the internet, then you certainly won?t ever be seen.

two. There?s a standard insufficient organizing well before signing up to get a domain. There exist plenty of many people that join a domain by deciding on domains like, ?haylorchurch.tv? or ?bobsmithscrealty.net?.

There?s virtually no larger blunders in order to make than to enroll in the incorrect domain. Why? Customers on the net are usually not seeking for facts like ?Bob Smith?; they may be checking for ?Charleston residences available for sale.? As well as in the above mentioned instance of Haylor Church, the domain screams, ?the .org was taken, so I took the .tv set which was presented.? The two of such examples are significant errors. Your domain identify are advised to respond to a matter that?s staying requested and explain your offering up. It will need to illustrate motion, not id.

Guaranteed, Yahoo and Google do not have got a title that solutions a matter, however you are certainly not Yahoo or Google. That you are just somebody who boasts an internet page so you wish to make some cash off of it or attract new church attendees or meet up with new human beings. What ever the situation, you need to go for a domain identify that may be descriptive of your respective offering up plus the over-all topic in the webpage.

three. Most websites entrepreneurs you shouldn?t update or proofread their online sites. I understand that it?s tough to trust, but you?ll notice loads of people that pay out tens of thousands of pounds with a blog only to enable it sit there and do almost nothing for them. I are unable to inform you the number of internet sites I?ve visited with glaring blunders in language, verb utilization or vocabulary. I?ve found the English language torn aside on supposedly competent internet sites. I?ve visited websites with a great deal of damaged one way links immediately turning me absent, in no way to return again. When human beings click on absent, they will not appear again.

Not considerably is likely to make a surfer simply click absent from the blog more quickly than blunders and damaged one way links. The ones obstacles are so comfortably mounted, but folk fall short to take a look at their online sites regularly. Regardless, just using a grammatically flawless internet site shouldn?t be ample. It?s important to be perpetually introducing and updating your facts to it to make certain that the various search engines will wish to preserve placing you for the very best in their lists. Once the Lookup Engines head to your website with their spider courses, they appear for that past time the location was up-to-date. The greater it is always up to date, the higher rating you are going to like.

four.Web pages fall short thanks to very a great many banner advertisements, shades, flashy text or exterior one-way links. Internet websites that appearance (and therefore are) one particular giant advert or just one significant revenue pitch will often fall short. Why? Persons see lots of adverts each day on billboards & Tv set. They hear them around the radio while they really are driving and they see them all more than the net. If your site isn?t focused on what you do, then surfers will simply click absent.

You?ll notice plenty of other internet websites that will create banner advertisements for you to place with your web page. Do not do it. They will not work, they will not make you any dollars and you also are merely helping that company?s look for rating. Only provide exterior one way links in your information site that help your business due to the fact an exterior link serves as a way for that surfer to leave your website. They can get distracted and not at any time return to your providing.

5.Way far too a great deal wealth is spent for any websites, internet hosting, setup and domain identify. There is certainly some internet designers who are making an absolute fortune to the public just on the grounds that they you shouldn?t understand how the world wide web works. Hear what I?m saying right here. Your investment in your internet site preferably should be like other business investments which you make. For illustration, let us say you could be a water ski retailer. You consider bringing in a very new line of water skis. Would you immediately buy 1000s of bucks worth of skis not having knowing if they can make you any bucks? Of course you wouldn?t. You?ll bring inside a few, test the waters (pardon the pun) and as they manufactured you added and more cash, you?d increase your inventory.

The same applies on the webpage, which is just an advertising medium. Start out with a simple, but pro design. Will not use a lot of funds on it at first. $500 for your first year is very reasonable. Then, as the internet site brings you customers and purchasers, you increase your presenting most likely by introducing a purchasing cart, or even more fancy graphics.

6.Websites entrepreneurs never pay ample time researching key phrases. Keyword phrases are an important part of how a Look Engine finds your web site. Choosing the right keyword phrases does not mean coming up with a list in your head. It means shelling out some time using web-based tools to help you obtain what many people are actually researching for when using the world wide web. Wouldn?t you wish to know what customers are looking out for in the past creating pages on your own web site?

There are certainly a great many tools out there that it?s beyond the scope of this article, but as a motive for failure, this is among the many large ones.

seven.Humans do not expend time optimizing their pages to get seen by look engines. A wide range of human beings will pay to get a ?Search Engine Optimizer? (SEOs) that will get them for the leading ten on Google, Yahoo, and MSN. They do this right before crafting good subject matter, analyzing their own search terms, and making their internet sites user friendly. The S.E.O. companies that offer these companies are keying in over the fact that most people today are ignorant about how a webpage gets to the top notch positions relating to the principal Look for Engines.

Let us get a little something strait. Lookup Engine Optimizers is unable to and may not get you in the leading ten for that words and queries you want. If they could, then everyone would use them and everyone would be on the high ten. Please just remember that only ten can be from the finest ten for every keyword lookup and the ones are the ones who have constructed their pages because of the articles that puts them there and keeps them there. If an S.E.O. (Look for Engine Optimizer) does get you towards the very best ten for just a day or and that means you will not stay there long.

The best computer engineers inside world work for Yahoo, Google and MSN and they will not be tricked into letting you in to the finest ten, the very best thirty or the very best one,000 for that matter. They will allow you in if your page supplies relevant articles and other content that their queries are trying to find though. And, when you make it into your very best ten the honest way, it truly is really tough to drop beyond it.

8.Individuals which have website pages will not respond to visitors inside of a timely manner. It quickly baffles me, everyone do not respond to inquiries on from their internet sites. Recently, I contacted several realistic estate agents when I was moving. I was relocating to Charleston from Denver which is one,600 miles absent and I seen some agents that I believed could help me out in identifying a home. I sent emails to them all (about 5 of these) and only 1 emailed me again within 24 hours. The many people either waited through a week or did not email at all. Which is a whopping 80% with poor response times.

I could not notify how this will kill your business. Of course I chose to work aided by the a particular that did communicate with me and we had been inside of a home within 60 days. Point is, you will have to email visitors back again quickly or they will discover people else. Not only do you need to respond quickly, you need to respond professionally and you simply need to permit them are aware that you read and understand their email. It is best to include all of the get hold of facts so you need to use ?spell-check?.

9.Women and men fall short to register their web sites concerning the local look engines: Did you recognize that the main Research Engines are pouring an incredible number of bucks into developing their local queries? What does this mean? I consider that in three to four years, the key SE?s will overtake the Yellow Pages as the number just one medium for checking a local business. Engineers are working around the clock now to create formulas that will point searchers on the right direction and towards local vendors that can meet up with their desires.

Everyone from dentists to hair salons who really don?t show up around the local look for will be at a disadvantage. In my estimate, a full 90% of websites may not be showing up inside the local queries and may be passed by their competition very soon.

ten.The biggest rationale that internet websites fall short is when people today do nothing at all. Yes, you will discover a multitude of stuff you can do erroneous that can make your site basically useless, but the worst undoubtedly one of all isn?t possessing an internet site. These days families surf the net. This is just a fact. The world-wide-web is no longer a luxury; it is actually used daily by hundreds of thousands and countless Americans. These are seeking for your help right now and should you will not have got a place on the internet in which they can get hold of you, then they will not.

(AP) ? Iraqi authorities forced an Iranian cargo plane heading to Syria to land for inspection in Baghdad to ensure it was not carrying weapons, an Iraqi official said Sunday.

It was the second such forced landing this month. The plane was released after the check.

The move appeared aimed at easing U.S. concerns that Iraq has become a route for shipments of Iranian military supplies that might could Syrian President Bashar Assad battle rebels in his country's civil war.

The head of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, Nassir Bandar, said the inspection took place Saturday. The inspectors allowed the plane to continue its flight after they determined there were no weapons onboard, he said.

"Our experts found that the plane was carrying only medical supplies and foodstuffs," Bandar said, "so the flight was allowed to proceed."

Bandar said Iraqi authorities would continue searching planes suspected of transporting arms to Syria. Iraqi officials have repeatedly said they would not allow their country or airspace to be a corridor for arms shipments to either Syrian government forces or rebels.

Iraq ordered another Iranian cargo plane to land for inspection on Oct. 2. No weapons were found in that search, either.

Last month, Iraq banned a North Korea plane from crossing its airspace because of suspicions it was carrying weapons to Syria.

American officials have expressed concern that Iranian planes may be ferrying weapons over Iraq, and they have pressed Baghdad to take stronger action to ensure that no such transfers occur.

Also Sunday, police said three people were killed and eight others wounded when two bombs exploded near a market southeast of Baghdad.

Police said the simultaneous attacks Sunday morning took place in Madain, about 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of Baghdad, as shoppers started to arrive.

Medics in a nearby hospital confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Sunday's blasts followed a string of attacks that killed 40 people in the Iraqi capital a day earlier, including evening explosions near a market and a bus station in the Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City.

Saturday was the deadliest day from attacks in nearly six weeks.

Business education degree: An Education Degree May Be Ideal For ...

One of the hardest things about being a new mom is deciding when to go back to work. Some moms stay at home for a few years, and some moms go back to work as soon as their maternity leave is up. There's no right answer, because it depends on the particular family situation a mom is in. One thing is certain though, moms everywhere want to have a good balance of work and family time, without sacrificing too much for either one.

For a lot of moms, working a typical 9 to 5 job just doesn't fit because they want more time with their families. They might be thinking about trying to find a job that suits the schedule and life of a busy family, including school, work, soccer and more. Moms who are trying to figure out a job that's more realistic for their lives may want to think about going back to school to get an education degree.

Getting an education degree may be the right move for moms who want more flexibility in their schedules. Being a teacher means a different set of working hours and days that better matches what their children's school schedule is. While a teacher still works from Monday through Friday, there are a lot of other days off during the year, too. Most of the days off that a teacher has match with the kids' days off, except for teacher in service days or other scheduled workdays when kids don't go to school, but teachers do.

For example, when the kids are home for summer vacation, you will be, too. The same goes for Christmas and Spring breaks. You won't have to worry any more about what you'll be doing during all those school holidays, because you'll be home with your kids. The worry and cost of finding childcare can be mostly a thing of the past, because you can largely be at home when they are.

There are a wide variety of education degrees that you can get, depending on what age children you want to teach. If you want to teach younger children at the pre-K level, you can go to school to get an associate degree in early childhood education in about two years. In many associate degree programs for early childhood education, the state certification process is included in the degree itself.

Teachers who teach at the elementary school level and higher need to complete a bachelor's degree in order to teach. Students who get a bachelor's degree in a particular subject such as English or history will also need to complete an education certification with the state they will be teaching in before they will be allowed to teach. Other aspiring teachers will work to receive a bachelor's degree in education, often with a specialized focus, like K - 5 education or science education. Your college will be able to help guide you in choosing your major and education specialty. Another good source of information is your state's department of education website.

Additionally, there are many grants and scholarships available to help pay for school for people who want to receive high levels of teaching accreditation in preparation for their teaching career. The TEACH grant is a federal program that awards money to students enrolled in teaching programs and requires graduates to teach at schools that are identified as having students from primarily low income families. TEACH recipients are required to teach for four years at one of the schools identified in the Department of Education's Low Income Directory. For teachers who are interested in making a big difference, a TEACH grant may be an ideal tool to help pay for school and giving teachers an opportunity to make a big impact.

AT&T sees fewer new customers in 3Q

(AP) ? The flow of customers into AT&T's wireless stores slowed further in the latest quarter, putting the company far behind rival Verizon Wireless.

AT&T Inc. on Wednesday said it added a net 151,000 new customers on contract-based plans from July through September, the lowest number for that period since at least 2003.

The Dallas-based company is blaming short supplies of the iPhone 5, which launched a week before the end of the quarter. But that didn't hold back Verizon Wireless, which last week reported adding 10 times as many contract-signing customers as AT&T did.

AT&T said the shortage of iPhones meant that most of them went to people who were already AT&T customers. Only 18 percent of the 4.7 million iPhones it activated in the quarter went to new subscribers, the lowest number yet.

AT&T suggested that it suffered in comparison to Verizon because it launched its new data-sharing plans later in the quarter. Verizon launched "Share Everything" just before the start of the quarter and said it prompted people to add lots of extra devices to their plans. AT&T waited until August to introduce "Mobile Share" and was less aggressive about it. At Verizon, "Share Everything" was the only choice available to new customers, while AT&T kept its old plans alongside the new one.

"For years, Verizon and AT&T have performed a nearly impossible feat; both companies have consistently and significantly outperformed an industry of which they already represented the overwhelming share," said Sanford Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett. "Simple math says that can't be sustained forever ... Verizon Wireless is still outperforming industry metrics. But AT&T isn't anymore."

"We're not reliant on connecting more people," said Ralph De La Vega, the head of AT&T's wireless division, on a conference call with analysts. The company's strategy now is to expand services, getting existing customers to spend more, for instance by hooking up their homes to AT&T's security and automation services, he said.

At the end of the quarter, AT&T was sending out bills for 77.3 million devices on its network, while Verizon served 95.6 million. Both have millions more devices on their networks through wholesale arrangements, but these pay much less.

AT&T's wireline business, which makes up nearly half of revenue, continued to shrink slowly, as people cancel their landlines and move from phone-line broadband to cable modems.

AT&T's quarterly results were largely flat with a year ago. Net income was $3.64 billion, or 63 cents per share, nearly unchanged from $3.62 billion, or 61 cents per share, a year earlier.

For the latest quarter, analysts expected earnings of 60 cents per share.

Revenue was also essentially flat from last year, at $31.46 billion. Analysts expected $31.57 billion.

Comparisons to last year were affected by the sale of AT&T's phone book business in May. The unit was profitable but shrinking, so AT&T sold a controlling stake to a private equity firm for $950 million. When subtracting the phone book business from last year's results, AT&T's earnings rose about 2 percent in the latest quarter, as customers kept shifting from regular phones to smartphones with more expensive service plans. Revenue grew nearly 3 percent.

AT&T shares fell 15 cents to $34.85 in late morning trading.

The Boston Tea Party

In 1698, The East Indian Company had sole monopoly to import tea to all British colonies. A bill was passed by The English Parliament as they still had authority over the colonies stating that the British American colonies could not import their tea from anywhere else like China.

This eliminated foreign competition and also gave Britain the chance to heavily tax all tea that was imported from Britain. The tea was auctioned off wholesale and the British companies that bought the tea were able to export it out the colonies and merchants in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Charleston. There then arose a big problem. The tea was taxed at 25% to be paid by the East India Company to bring it into Britain and an additional tax was on the tea only consumed in England. However when the tea was bought by the Dutch government, no such taxes existed.

So it was inevitable that the British Americans smuggled the Dutch tea in at cheaper prices and no tax. Eventually over a period of 5 years, the Tea Act brought in lower taxes and the tea was then readmitted into the American colonies at a cheaper rate than the smuggled tea. The East Indian Company that was once facing bankruptcy was back in business and seven ships were sent to the colonies. Two thousand chests spread between the seven ships were on route when a protest erupted, the smugglers and the Dutch tea company were out of business. Legitimate tea importers were outraged that the Tea Act of 1773 gave the monopoly back to the East Indian Company.

The tea ship, the Dartmouth, arrived into Boston Harbour late in November of 1773. A mass meeting had been called and thousands of people turned up. By British law the Dartmouth had 20 days to unload its tea cargo before it was confiscated by customs officials. The meeting passed a resolution that the Dartmouth captain was to turn back without unloading and paying the import duty. Governor Hutchinson refused permission for the Dartmouth to leave without paying the duty! On the last day of the Dartmouth's deadline 7000 people gathered at the Old South Meeting House. Govern Hutchinson still refused the ship to leave without paying, and the tea party began.

While control of the meeting was trying to be regained by Samuel Adams, with some people dressed in Mohawk costumes and as warriors, this was an attempt to put a national American symbolism over European tradition. That evening the three ships were boarded and over the next few hours 342 chests of tea were dumped overboard and into the water of Boston Harbour.

Over the years, tea has become a nations favourite and with herbal tea and green tea available, customers can find exactly what they are looking for.

LG records a 'solid' $138.57 million net profit for Q3, keeps the positive trend going

LG Electronics has reported its earnings for Q3 2012, notching its third straight quarter of positive income with a net profit of 157 billion won ($138.57 million) and "solid" performances from its home theater and mobile businesses. Revenue is down from the same period last year, but seeing as it's actually making money this time around it's probably still reason to celebrate. On the mobile side of the aisle it reports an operating profit of $19.42 million with slightly higher sales than Q2, mostly thanks to those LTE smartphones it's been rolling out. Its home entertainment biz noted a rise in LCD sales, with 3D TVs and LED-lit models growing from last quarter in most markets. Looking towards the future it's obviously going all-in on the Optimus G (although our interests run towards the Nexus G that should debut next week), and also looks for its Ultra HD television to raise its standing as a premium brand. Check the press release after the break and PDF linked below for more numbers if that's your thing.

Philadelphia's Restaurant Industry Creates A Lot of [Bad] Jobs ...

Yesterday Next American City?published?my piece on the?implications?of low-income jobs, and non-traditional labor organizing, for our cities. ?The second half of my post, which I?ll focus on today, is about the?restaurant?industry (which, unlike Wal-Mart style retail, I?ve had personal experience in).

Earlier this month the Philadelphia Chapter of the Restaurant Opportunities Center?(ROC) released a report, ?Behind the Kitchen Door,? on the state of the food service industry in Philadelphia which, until recently, was the only sector experiencing significant job growth. The numbers didn?t look too good, as you might expect from a an industry with a national median income of?$18,130 per year. As I noted in my Next American City piece:

It?s not hard to see why [ROC] decided to open up shop in Philly. Here, according to a recent ROC?report, restaurants raked in $2.3 billion in 2007 (most recent year data was available), a 40 percent [increase in the number of?restaurants], while wages declined by 11 percent since 2001. The industry is rife with labor law and wage violations; Some 40 percent of Philly restaurant workers worked off the clock without pay and almost 58 percent were not paid overtime,?ROC?reported.

?We have done same research in eight other and we run into the same problems across the industry, across the country,? says Fabricio Rodriguez, lead coordinator of?ROC?Philadelphia. ?And all these features that people in the restaurant industry face every day are very common in the [anywhere in] service economy.? [Bold my own.]

?Wage theft is rampant in Philadelphia?s low-wage service economy, particularly in its?restaurants?and bars. Very few are offered paid sick leave (7.2 percent) or any form of health care coverage (5.7 percent).?One ROC member, who works as a waitress, told attendees of the October 10,?Restaurant?Industry Summit of her ?constant fear? of getting sick and being unable to make rent. Sounds familiar. When I worked in a restaurant in Maryland, no one ever took days off for?illness: Not only was that a sliver of an already meager income lost, but there was a general institutional bias against it. We were young, so we were expected to tough it out (and try not to snot on the customers? food).

That may just be an?unpleasant aspect of a temporary job for college students, but in an economy that is mostly creating low-wage jobs, at the expense of middle-income work, there are a lot of people waiting tables and working as line chefs on a non-temporary basis. They need the ability to take time off, with?reasonable?pay, if they get sick or have to take a loved one to the hospital.

For that reason ROC has championed Philly?s ?unsuccessful earned sick leave bill, which would require that all employers offer a specific amount of paid sick days after an employee has worked a specific number of hours. (The latter passed City Council, but was vetoed by Mayor Michael Nutter.) If more 92.8 percent of food service employers are unwilling to treat their workers as human beings with lives outside of work, than the?government?should require that they do. That, after all, is what?government?should be for: Protecting and promoting the interests of those without the?individual?power and?privilege to stand alone. (A category that encompasses the vast majority of society.)

The?Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association, of course, does not take this view. In a recent Metro Daily article on the dismal state of labor in Philly food service industry, the CEO of the association,?Patrick Conroy, dismissed ROC?s findings:??This group has formed chapters in other cities and they come out with virtually the same report.? This is an absurdly lazy rebuttal, even for an industry group (which aren?t known for the originality, or accuracy, of their claims). The reason ROC?s city-specific?reports are very similar, is that conditions within the?restaurant?industry are very?similar.?Similarly?terrible.

Union questions Allegiant Air?s work policy for flight attendants in Hawaii

The union that represents Allegiant Air?s flight attendants is asking Hawaii?s governor and congressional delegation to investigate whether the airline is complying with the state?s prepaid health-care law by hiring only part-time employees.

The Transport Workers Union of America Local 577 noted that Las Vegas-based Allegiant (Nasdaq: ALGT) plans to establish a base in Honolulu next month, and that the flight attendants being hired for the Honolulu base will be part-time.

The union recently sent letters to Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka, and Reps. Colleen Hanabusa and Mazie Hirono, questioning whether Allegiant?s part-time scheduling of its flight attendants based in Honolulu ? ... is being implemented to avoid providing health-care benefits for flight attendants based in Hawaii.?

Hawaii?s prepaid health-care law requires employers to provide health insurance for employees who work an average of at least 20 hours per week.

?A round-trip flight to or from the Mainland gives you a schedule of nearly 14 hours not including the many unpaid hours a flight attendant accrues due to delays,? Debra Petersen-Barber, an Allegiant flight attendant who is lead negotiator for TWU Local 577, said in a statement. ?Unless the company schedules flight attendants one day a week, there is no way for them to work less than 20 hours.?

Allegiant spokeswoman Jennifer Wheeler noted in an email that the airline, which launched its Hawaii flights to Las Vegas and Fresno, Calif., in late June, was new to the market, ?and given our current level of operations, part-time flight attendants allow us to meet our operational needs while maintaining the low costs that allow us to offer customers low fares.?

?Far from skirting the law as the TWU?s press release suggests, prior to commencing operations in [Honolulu], Allegiant obtained guidance from the state of Hawaii in order to ensure compliance with its legal obligations going forward,? she said.

Syria's wealthy business owners face war-time squeeze

Many wealthy businessmen in Syria continue to support President Bashar al-Assad. But some have expressed frustration or have fled abroad, as the conflict in their country and its economy worsens.?

A Free Syrian Army fighter, (l.), helps traders as they remove their stock from their shops, at the souk of the old city of Aleppo city, Syria on Sept. 24. Wealthy Syrians say the violence from the 19-month civil war has pommeled their businesses, but the squeeze from a complex array of sanctions is the noose slowly strangling their country's buckling economy.

Syria's wealthy, long cultivated by President Bashar al-Assad as a support for his regime, are seeing their businesses pummeled by the bloody civil war. Factories have been burned down or damaged in fighting. International sanctions restrict their finances. Some warn that their companies are in danger of going under, worsening the country's buckling economy.

Assad may not have lost the backing of Syria's business elite, but some are losing faith. Many of those who can have fled abroad, hoping to ride out the turmoil, which is now in its 19th month and is only getting worse as rebels and regime forces tear apart the country in their fight for power.

Several businessmen interviewed by The Associated Press say resentment is growing against Assad over the crisis ? but they also aren't throwing their lot in with the rebellion. They are hunkering down, trying to salvage their companies.

One young businessman said his family factory in the suburbs of Damascus was damaged Wednesday, with windows blown out and part of the ceiling was destroyed when warplanes hit rebels in a neighboring building. Its several hundred employees had to hide in the basement until fighting eased enough that they could be bused out to safety.

"I feel that they are both just as bad as each other," he said of the rebels and the government. "I could have died today because they (the rebels) were across the street from us and they (the planes) could have bombed us."

Syria's economy has been heavily hurt by the conflict, which activists say has left more than 30,000 dead. Inflation has risen to at least 36 percent. The currency has dropped around 50 percent, now trading at 75 pounds to the dollar on the black market, according to the factory owner. The government estimates economic losses at $34 billion ? almost half the gross domestic product ? though the opposition puts the losses at nearly three times that amount. Fuel shortages have become widespread as the regime burns through hard currency to import diesel and oil at the same time that it finances the war effort.

Though the economic blow has been hard, "we are not at the stage that the rug has been pulled from under the regime," said Anthony Skinner, head of Middle East and North African division at Maplecroft political risk consultancy.

Assad has so far been able to keep his head above water with financial support from top ally Iran, he noted.

"The question is whether this is sustainable in the longer term and I don't think it is," Skinner said. "What Assad is counting on at present is a bare-bones economy that is able to fuel his armed forces."

While bettors visit a game such as this and think easy win, that is not the situation. Both teams understand what is at risk and therefore are going all in. I?d avoid betting farmville because you will find a lot of intangibles, but when I needed to, I?d go ahead and take over and also the Cardinals getting six points.

What?s on the line?

While it isn?t really a divisional fight, both of these teams happen to be searching at Sunday?s game like a precursor towards the wild-card showdown that may befall these teams. Each sits at 4-2 around the season, however the tough division each originates from forces anticipation for any playoff berth to range from wild-card place.

Tiebreakers and momentum will use the favor of Sunday?s champion, nor team are able to afford to get rid of another game at this time. The champion of the game can make the 2010 nfl playoffs and also the loser won?t.

Cardinals Player to look at: Ray Fitzgerald, WR

Regardless of the tough Vikings? pass defense being rated tenth within the National football league in yards permitted per game cheap Kevin Kolb has gone out having a rib injuries, star wide receiver Ray Fitzgerald it?s still the Cardinals? messiah.

By having an uncanny ability to increase and obtain any ball tossed his way, Fitzgerald is able to make the most mediocre QB seem like a small Joe Montana. Now he needs to do his miracle act for John Skelton?again.

Despite the ever-altering QB rotation the Cardinals have, Fitzgerald can get his receptions, but it will likely be the way the Vikings attempt to contain him that?ll be the main difference. Arizona will win the overall game when the veteran WR can catch a minimum of 10 passes.

Vikings Player to look at: Adrian Billings, RB

There?s no better pure running in the National football league than Adrian Billings, basically. While there might be faster backs, none hold the type of agility, speed and energy the veteran runner has at this time.

And there?s still not a way Billings is 100 % after getting major knee surgery only a couple of several weeks ago. His have fun with injuries considered is flat-out unbelievable.

With 113 hurrying attempts for 499 yards and 2 touchdowns to date this year, Billings isn?t getting his best year, but he?s still extremely effective. When the veteran back can recover from the tough Cardinals in Week 7, though, the Vikings will win large.

Conjecture: Vikings 24, Cardinals 20

There?s little question that both teams have immense talent on sides from the ball, but it will likely be the injuries which have affected the Cardinals? offensive unit which will cost them the overall game as well as their chance at taking the 2010 nfl playoffs this season.

The Vikings possess a great mixture of offensive skill gamers, however the emergence from the rookie QB Christian Ponder continues to be the team?s greatest difference. Having a defense that may stay fresh due to the team?s offensive prowess, Minnesota?s defenders have grown to be a genuine pressure.

Arizona isn?t a poor team by any stretch from the imagination, but the possible lack of a hurrying attack without Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams and also the injuries to Kevin Kolb will disaster the Cardinals.

Vikings win a good one having a 4th-quarter touchdown.

The Minnesota Vikings happen to be waiting to locate that deep threat wide receiver to spread out in the offense given that they lost Sydney Grain a couple of short seasons ago. Many think the Vikings have discovered their answer using the up-and-comer Jerome Simpson, however after missing the very first 3 games because of suspension and so the last game . 5 because of injuries, it has still not been verified.

After having suffered a back injuries that left numbness in the leg from the Titan?s two Sundays ago, many thought he would maintain the selection earlier this weekend versus. the Redskins, including Simpson themself based on a number of recent reviews.

When requested throughout his recent Monday press conference about Simpson?s reported surprise, Vikings mind coach Leslie Frazier mentioned ?Really, I spoken to him on Saturday by what I believed at that time, so he type of had a concept of where I had been headed, however in his heart he really wants to play. He?s a competitor, that is that which you appreciate about him.?

Frazier also continued to state Simpson thinks he?ll prepare yourself on Sunday. ?He seems like he will anticipate to go, He explained to simply watch the tape which will prove it. So I am searching toward seeing how he progresses because the week continues.?

Aside from the hurdling of the Zoysia Bills defender throughout a lengthy catch and run this preseason, very little continues to be seen of Simpson yet this season as he?s only handled 4 catches for 50 yards around the season. However, certainly one of individuals catches what food was in an important amount of time in the fourth quarter throughout the Vikings key victory versus. Detroit, hopefully giving Viking fans a glimmer of products in the future.

UCSD Student Questions Media's Cancer Scare Tactics - Col?lege In ...

Posted by College Insurrection ?? Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:06am

Chronic reporting on studies classifying nearly everything as carcinogenic has created a backlash.

In University of California San Diego?s The Guardian, student Hilary Lee explains why she is going to continue to enjoy her bubble tea.

According to the Sept. 5 Huffington Post article ?Bubble Tea Tapioca Pearls May Contain Cancer-Causing Chemicals, German Study Claims,? the folks at the University Hospital Aachen have found that boba may contain the carcinogen PCB. As an addict who gets antsy without boba for more than 48 hours (I?m giving myself too much credit ? the number hovers closer to 4.8), this should worry me. But it doesn?t.

We live in an age in which everything appears to be cause for alarm. Talking on cell phones for too long may increase your risk of brain cancer. French fries, potato chips, cereal and coffee contain the cancer-inducing chemical acrylamide. Plastic shower curtains are hotbeds for chemicals correlated with liver and nervous system damage as well as ? you guessed it ? cancer.

And the list doesn?t end there. New car interiors. Plane rides. Hair dye. Anti-perspirant. You can?t even sit at home in peace. Apparently, the radioactive gas radon is produced from the natural decay of uranium in soil, which sneaks its way through cracks in your house and can cause lung cancer. Researchers seem to be nodding in fervent agreement with Hobbes? pessimistic assertion that life is ?nasty, brutish and short.?

Yet, I really don?t care. It?s mentally taxing to keep tabs on everything that is supposedly killing you. By nature, people find comfort in dismissing challenges to the familiar. And maybe I?m choosing to be ignorant. But if I were to listen to everything the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and every other researcher out there said, the only ?safe? way to live would be to become a paranoid recluse like Leonardo DiCaprio?s character at the end of ?The Aviator.?

The public doesn?t need to be ferried along with every ?breakthrough discovery? that comes out.

Lee concludes:

Obsessing over speculative causes of cancer is useless (and has been reported by one study to increase your risk of cancer too, incidentally).

In short ? science can suck it. I will still be getting my regular fix of almond boba milk tea, regardless of what the German scientists say.

Clearly, Lee offers more evidence that public distrust of the media is growing, especially among the young.
